The SETEX Group is a modern textile producer with a long tradition. With locations in Germany and Poland, the company manages key production steps in-house. SETEX has several weaving mills with state-of-the-art weaving machines operating 24 hours a day, its own sewing department with finishing and packaging, and a warehouse with an area of over 10,000 square meters.

The Challenge: Skyrocketing electricity prices

As an energy-intensive company, SETEX faced a problem: energy prices had increased sixfold in recent years. Energy has thus become a significant cost factor for the company. and a substantial disadvantage in international competition, against which SETEX must hold its own.

"SETEX is one of the last fully integrated textile companies in Germany and Europe. The sharp rise in energy prices poses major challenges for the textile industry. Crucially, we need to diversify our energy procurement."

Konrad Schröder, Senior Managing Director SETEX

The Strategy: From a standard tariff to a diversified energy portfolio

With an annual total energy consumption of 16.4 GWh - in electricity alone - power procurement represents a major lever for SETEX to save costs and remain competitive. Working in close cooperation, SETEX and trawa implemented an electricity procurement model that enables SETEX to save CO2 and costs without having to tie up or build valuable resources within the company.

On January 1, 2024, SETEX started out with a structured energy portfolio from trawa. The concept: instead of relying on a single electricity tariff, SETEX uses a diversified portfolio of flexible electricity price models combined with fixed prices.

The Success: 9% cost savings with 100% green power from German plants

Electricity cost savings

SETEX achieved a 9% reduction in electricity costs compared to a futures market tariff thanks to the AI-optimized structured portfolio. The reason lies in the significantly cheaper PPA procurement, which offers advantages over conventional futures energy market or pure spot market procurement.

Supply and planning security

Protection against price fluctuations. The wind PPA supported by trawa ensured a continuous supply of green power to SETEX, making the company independent of fluctuating exchange prices. This enables predictable energy costs for better calculation and budget planning.

Sustainability

With trawa at its side, SETEX switched its energy supply to 100% renewable. By sourcing electricity from regional wind PPAs and German-wide wholesale green electricity, it saved 4,551 tons of CO2 compared to the German electricity mix - equivalent to the annual consumption of 859 households. The exchange green power is procured via the official registry of origin of the German Federal Environment Agency, which ensures transparency and prevents greenwashing.

Employee satisfaction and retention

The sustainable energy supply strengthens company values and creates room for employee initiatives. SETEX installed a TV screen at the entrance to share the CO2 savings with employees - increasing staff satisfaction and retaining talent within the organization.

Textiles Made in Germany: How professional energy procurement secures plant locations

"Fixed-price contracts are a thing of the past. We need a flexible power procurement model consisting of fixed and dynamic prices. That is what trawa offered us" - Matthias Bushaus, Assistant to the Management at SETEX

The partnership with trawa enables SETEX to control costs despite high energy prices and to use sustainability as an advantage. Employees are proud of the environmental performance, and the company is securing the future of its "Made in Germany" production. SETEX extended the collaboration until 2027 and plans to work with trawa on projects such as battery storage to further optimize energy efficiency.

trawa enables companies of all sizes to buy and manage electricity as professionally as large corporations. With our AI-powered technology, we analyze individual power consumption and optimize the electricity supply from renewable energy sources.
